Off Road Racing has a massive following these days, with spectators flocking from all over the globe, to see and sometimes even touch these fantastically quick off roader’s on the way past.
But be warned this sport can be extremely dangerous for spectators and marshall’s as well as the racers themselves…
This is what can happen when you get too close and something goes completely wrong…
Both you and the driver only get a split second to react, when something like this happens and you have virtually no chance of stopping what is about to take place. This Driver could not of done anything to prevent this…that is the risk you take, by standing too close to the action.
Awesome man made, purpose built Tracks and Off Road Race Tracks
Monster Truck racing takes place all over the globe nowadays, but mainly in the USA where it has a massive following and in the UK where it draws in huge crowds too. Truck Fest and Monster Jam seem to be the most popular touring Monster Truck Festivals at the moment.
These festivals are full of races and fantastic stunts and jumps. The tracks include dirt ramps that launch these beasts meters into the air, massive amounts of dust and mud to cover everyone and everything…and not forgetting the cars, caravans and motor homes that they crush as part of the show too. These big wheelers are great fun to watch !!
Super cross is classified as an indoor Motor cross, normally held in Arena’s or Baseball Stadiums. This sport is made up of notoriously high jumps, which are actually very rhythmic to the riders. It’s hugely popular in North America but less so in Europe, where Motor cross seems to dominate.
This looks very scary, my heart would be in my mouth just watching them !!
This is just mad…basically Ice Racing is racing for Motorbike, Cars, Quads on frozen lakes or rivers, they basically just clear a track and that’s it really. The bikes and cars are normally fitted with spiked tyres for extra grip on organised racing meets.
The riders even manage some stunts for the spectators too !!
Extreme Off road Racing is becoming a very popular sport, where competitors take their adapted 4X4’s with massive horse power, around these gruelling and very messy off road tracks. These tracks may be set in woods, deserts, on hills or mountains, over rocks or knee deep in mud…This is racing in the extreme !!
Numerous Desert or Baja-style Races are held on Government Recreational Land in the Mojave Desert, in California. The most famous of these is the Vegas to Reno which is 100miles long and makes up part of The Best in the Desert Series.
Another popular one in recent years is the Mojave-Off-Road Racing Enthusiast Series, with almost 200 competitors per race.
Originally know as the Paris-Dakar Rally, from Paris, France to Dakar, Senegal, was run every year until 2008. Which was cancelled due to security threats along the route, but in 2009 was relocated to South America (Argentina and Chile).
Both amateur and professional competitors take part in this race, covering between 500 and 600 miles per day. making this an endurance race rather than a rally. The vehicles which take part are put into 3 different classes, Motorbikes (including Trikes and Quads), Cars and Trucks. These are all true off-road vehicles rather than modified road vehicles, as the terrain is too harsh for just a super up version of a road vehicle.
The course includes gruelling sections of off-road (off track really), crossing dunes, rocks, mud and camel grass among other things. Numerous people have been killed in the Dakar’s history, including competitors, spectators and local people on this 3700 mile endurance race.
Well don’t think we’ll be seeing any normal 4×4 road cars on this race, never mind any electric cars, they wouldn’t last 2 minutes in these conditions. Off to pack, ready for our next big adventure…Demon Chick xx
