In the future, should a zombie apocalypse threaten to wipe out society as we know it and launch a terrifying assault on man kind
just how useful will our future gizmos ultimately be?
Take for instance the solar car.
This is soon to become the norm in how we travel with the introduction of mainstream electric cars and those that have solar sun roofs and the prospect of solar cars being in production. So what would be the obvious upsides and downfalls of this creation against armies of the living dead who are intent on turning us in to mindless, decaying corpses?
Lets consider the hypothetical Zombies vs Solar Cars argument…..
1. Zombies are slow, cars are fast
Let’s face it, the zombie walk is the most obvious trait of the zombie and people around the world have been known to come together to take part in a ‘zombie shuffle’ so this is an obvious flaw! Cars can outrun zombies in a flash and can knock down a mob of them in no time!
2. Cars are a safe way to kill zombies
Your car will protect you from getting grabbed and dragged off while you attempt to kill them and run them down. Much less risky than running at them with an axe for instance. Just be sure to not let then get close to the windows and you’ll be fine.
3. The car can recharge safely while zombies are hiding or dormant
Some Zombies can’t come out into the sunlight which is where the solar car will be! You can always be sure your car can be charged safely and will be ready for action.
4. Sunlight is sustainable unlike petrol – and safer
Consider the film I am Legend. Eventually, with everyone dead, the food and reserves would be running dry. Eventually petrol or diesel would run out from the pumps but sunlight would always be there to keep your car in action.
5. Stealth – a weapon of choice
Solar cars don’t have an engine so they’re extremely quiet! The zombies wouldn’t hear you coming, making surprise attacks a doddle.
6. Useful for throwing out grenades/ firing missiles and escaping unharmed
Masses of zombies can be destroyed while you drive off in to the sunset…literally!
But let’s not get carried away with our awesome new zombie killing machine. For argument’s sake we must also consider the downsides…
1. A solar powered car is not the coolest zombie killing weapon of choice
I think given the chance to be a zombie killing tyrant you would want to use a chainsaw or something like that like in the movies!
2. The solar car could run out of juice during the zombie killing
If the car was to run out of stored power you would just be a sitting zombie duck.
3. Is there sufficient storage for food and supplies when you get hungry?
Say downside number 2 was to happen, would the car have room for supplies and be sufficient enough for you to stay in whilst protected from masses of the undead?
4. If humans scorched the sky like in the Matrix, the car would never charge
Hence, this weapon but would not be viable as a zombie killing solution
5. Zombie attacks may incur solar panel damage
Clearly, zombies don’t pay much respect to people’s property so I’m pretty sure that the panels could be destroyed while they try to get at you to eat you or when you run them down. Without solar panels the car is rendered useless.
6. Running over a zombie does not kill them entirely just slows them down
To successfully kill a zombie their head needs to be taken clean off which I’m guessing is tricky in a car. So you could spend all that time mowing them down just for them to get back up and so on…. although you may simply wish to drive a fuel efficient car such as the Mitsubishi colt and try your luck until the petrol runs out.
